Active shooter training coming to Sierra Vista in September | Cochise County

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is bringing active shooter response training to Sierra Vista in September.

The sheriff’s office and the ALICE Training Institute will hold a two-day instructor certification course at the Rothery Center on Sept. 2 and 3. The training teaches proactive response strategies for violent critical incidents.

“The goal of the ALICE program is to empower individuals to participate in their own survival in the gap between when a violent situation begins and when law enforcement arrives,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The course is designed for law enforcement, schools, universities, hospitals, businesses and places of worship. Participants who complete the certification will be prepared to bring the strategies back to their organizations and communities.

The training costs $749 per person. Registration is available online.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Sierra Vista Police Department to bring the training to the area. ALICE Training is aligned with recommendations from the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The program teaches options-based responses rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. ALICE strategies are taught with a trauma-informed approach and focus on age- and ability-appropriate responses.
