Hiker airlifted to safety after fall in Madera Canyon | Top Stories



TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A hiker who fell down a 30-foot slope in the Santa Rita Mountains near Josephine Saddle was rescued by helicopter and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Santa Rita Fire District units responded to the rescue in Madera Canyon, assisting the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department with the technical mountain rescue. The hiker required a technical extraction due to the steep terrain.

Arizona DPS Air Rescue airlifted the hiker from the mountainside. The hiker was then transferred to a ground ambulance for transport to an area hospital.

Multiple agencies assisted with the rescue, including Santa Rita Fire District, Drexel Heights Fire District, Tubac Fire District, United States Border Patrol, Arizona DPS Air Rescue and Life Net.
