Man struck, killed crossing Speedway

A 61-year-old man crossing East Speedway near the University of Arizona campus Tuesday night was fatally struck by a vehicle, Tucson police say.

Gregory Scott Cunningham was struck by a gold 2014 Lexus sedan as he tried to cross Speedway outside of a crosswalk between North Mountain and North Campbell avenues, police said in a news release.

Cunningham was declared dead at the scene.

The unidentified 62-year-old driver stopped immediately and cooperated with police.

The investigation continues.

The crash marks the 15th fatal pedestrian crash within the city so far this year. That’s three more than there were in 2025 at the same time of the year, police said.
