TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A major upgrade at John F. Kennedy Park on the southwest side is now complete, bringing new ballfields, a playground, a dog park and more.
The project includes two baseball fields and a T-ball field with LED lighting. The park also features a new playground with slides, swings, a rock climbing wall, monkey bars and a merry-go-round.
A new two-and-a-half-acre dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs. Three mosaic murals celebrate local history.
These improvements are made possible with Proposition 407 bond money. Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and other city leaders were at the park for a ribbon cutting.
Romero says many families will soon enjoy this new outdoor space.
“It took a long time, but we’re just really happy,” Romero said. “It’s just being able to feel the happiness of the families and the kids, is one of my favorite things.”
“We never imagined it, we hoped, we had faith in everyone that was involved, but we never imagined it would be so beautiful,” Little League official Irma Gonzalez said. “Somewhere where the kids and the families are enjoying it.”
