A man armed with a rifle was fatally shot by Phoenix police after refusing to comply during a domestic violence call, police say. An investigation is ongoing.
PHOENIX — An armed man was killed after being shot by Phoenix police officers on Friday night, according to officials with the city’s police department.
Around 6:30 p.m., an officer was called to a domestic violence situation near 35th Avenue and Osborn Road.
Upon arrival, the officer found a man who was the subject of the call.
Police said he ran through the complex with the officer following him.
As an additional officer arrived on the scene, the man was seen carrying a rifle and refused to comply with the officers to drop the weapon.
Police said this is when the shooting involving officers occurred.
The man was injured by gunfire. Officers approached him safely and began providing medical aid before the Phoenix Fire Department arrived.
He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A witness told 12News they heard several gunshots in the area. Video from the witness shows a person receiving CPR from police officers.
No officers or other civilians were injured, officials said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is investigating.
Details on the domestic violence call and the events leading up to the shooting remain a part of the investigation.
