Marana Police bring back bike patrol for community safety | Local News

MARANA, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Marana Police Department is excited to announce the return of its Bike Patrol Unit after more than a decade, aiming to enhance community safety and connectivity.

Led by Sergeant Neil Jordan, the unit will patrol business plazas, neighborhoods and the Chuck Huckelberry Loop, focusing on visibility and proactive engagement, MPD said. Officers Mike Jennings, Brad Gill and James Riegert make up the team, having recently completed a 40-hour certification course in various tactical and endurance skills.

“Our team wasted no time making an impact. Within just 20 minutes of our first deployment, our Bike Patrol officers located and arrested a shoplifting suspect who had stolen merchandise from Target,” Jordan said. “As our community continues to grow, we’re preparing for the busy summer months and the increased activity that comes with it. Our goal is to be visible, proactive, and connected to the community we serve.”

The department acknowledges Sergeant Brad Pelton of the Tucson Police Department for his training support, with Officer Jennings bringing significant experience from his previous role in Tucson’s bike unit.

Residents are encouraged to support the Bike Patrol Unit by staying vigilant and sharing the road safely.
