Installation of new Tucson bishop to be livestreamed Friday

James A. Misko will be installed Friday as the eighth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson.

The mass of ordination and installation will be from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave.

The cathedral will be filled to capacity by invited guests, including more than 20 bishops, 200 clergy, religious brothers and sisters, parish and school representatives, as well as family and friends, the diocese said in a news release Wednesday.

Pope Leo appointed Misko to be Tucson’s bishop.

He currently serves as the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Austin, Texas.

Misko, 55, succeeds Archbishop Edward J. Weisenberger, who left Tucson in March after he was appointed by Pope Francis to serve as the archbishop of Detroit.

The Diocese of Tucson was established in 1897. It serves 400,000 Catholics in nine counties: Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Gila, La Paz, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma.
