Arizona couple says man tried to steal package with fake ID

Neighbors in Arcadia are on alert after someone allegedly tried to steal a package by posing as a resident.

PHOENIX — Residents in an Arcadia neighborhood are on edge after a person allegedly used a fake identification card to try to claim a package from a FedEx driver, prompting a police investigation.

Brooklyn Beyler said a FedEx driver approached her to report that someone had posed as her partner, Josh Diker, in an attempt to intercept a delivery.

“She was very startled, and he pulled out the driver’s license. She said it had his name, our address, but his picture.” Beyler said of the encounter.

Diker, a small business owner, said he immediately tried to locate the individual after learning the suspect was seen just a block away.

“My initial instinct is, I need to track this guy,” Diker said. “She said he was just a block away… got my car started to locate him. Unfortunately, I couldn’t.”

The couple said the individual ran up to the delivery driver with a license bearing Diker’s personal information but displaying a photo they did not recognize.

The case is now in the hands of the Phoenix Police Department. Police confirmed the incident is being investigated, but no arrests have been made.

According to the couple, the incident occurred down the street from their home in broad daylight. They said there was no security or Ring camera footage available from the immediate area.

The pair said they are grateful the driver did not release the package. As owners of a family-operated business, they said losing even one shipment could have significant financial consequences.

“Although we’ve been in business for 40 years, we are 100% family-owned and operated,” Diker said. “The loss of even one package is detrimental to us financially.”

The couple said they plan to continue working with law enforcement and alert neighbors through community apps such as Nextdoor and Ring to help prevent similar incidents.
