The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue to rebuild Interstate 10 on Tucson’s South Side and finish a new connection to I-10 on the North Side in 2026.
When the South Side project is complete, there will be three lanes of traffic in both directions between Alvernon Way and Kino Boulevard and four lanes west of Kino.
As part of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2028, the Palo Verde interchange will be scrapped and replaced by a new interchange at Country Club Road.
The interchange at Kino will be reconstructed and a new crossing underneath the highway will connect the north and south sides of the Kino sports complex, which is getting a major makeover as part of the Mosaic Quarter project.

The four-mile I-10 widening from three to four lanes between Ruthrauff and Ina roads, which has been underway since 2023, is mostly completed but work continues on a new connection to I-10 at Sunset Road.
The project to build a new extension of Sunset Road to River Road will include a new bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Rillito River, as well as a new access point from Sunset Road to the Chuck Huckelberry Loop.
The Sunset Road portion of the project is being funded by the Regional Transportion Authority but the work is being done by ADOT as part of the overall interstate widening project.
Sunset Road will be renamed Sunset Links when it is completed.

ADOT plans to start rebuilding the Irvington Road interchange on Interstate 19 to ease congestion for commuters and shoppers at the nearby retail centers around midyear. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and wrap in the fall.
The new interchange will have three westbound lanes of traffic on Irvington Road over I-19 between Calle Santa Cruz and 16th Avenue and two eastbound lanes. The bridge will be long enough to allow for future widening of I-19.
The project will also feature widened on-ramps, including a partial cloverleaf ramp, and pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Irvington Road, including a rebuilding of bike and pedestrian lanes on the south side of Irvington Road.

East of Tucson, ADOT will continue a project on I-10 near Benson, where the highway has been narrowed to one lane for a stretch of I-10 through spring 2026.
ADOT is rehabbing four bridges in between the Empirita Road exit and the bridge over a Union Pacific Railroad bridge, from mileposts 292 to 293.
The project, which is west of Benson, will cost $6.2 million and will improve a pair of bridges that travel over Empirita Road and a second pair of bridges that pass over the railroad tracks.
During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.
