New videos and photos released of Brown University shooting person of interest as manhunt continues

The releases come as police renewed their search Monday, a day after announcing that a man previously detained in connection with the case had been released.

WASHINGTON — Investigators searching for the gunman who killed two Brown University students and wounded nine others have released new video footage as the manhunt continues.

Authorities shared a video on X of a person of interest on Monday and added that they plan to release additional footage as the investigation unfolds. Anyone who recognizes the individual is asked to submit tips through the FBI’s online tip center at fbi.gov/brownuniversityshooting or call 401-272-3121.

A $50,000 award is being offered for any information that leads to the suspect’s arrest and conviction.

During a Monday afternoon news conference that got testy at times, authorities released three new videos of the man they believe carried out the attack. In the videos, which were shot about two hours before the shooting, the man was wearing a mask and a dark two-tone jacket. Although his face wasn’t visible, the videos provided the clearest images yet of the suspect.

“We want to identify the individual and bring them to justice,” said Providence’s police chief, Col. Oscar Perez, noting that police responded within minutes of getting the initial 911 calls on Saturday. He urged the public to call a tip line with any information about the man in the videos.

The releases come as police renewed their search Monday, a day after announcing that a man previously detained in connection with the case had been released. Officials said the individual was taken into custody at a Rhode Island hotel but was later cleared.

That marked a setback in the investigation and added to questions about the shooting and investigation, including an apparent lack of video evidence and whether the focus on the person of interest might have given the killer more time to flee.

State Attorney General Peter Neronha acknowledged the urgency of the situation during a news conference late Sunday night.

“We have a murderer out there,” he said.

The shooting happened Saturday on Brown University’s campus, where two students were killed and nine others were injured.

With no suspect currently in custody, investigators are urging the public to review the newly released footage and come forward with any information that could help identify the person involved.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
