The Scottsdale woman falsely claimed to be pregnant by a man she reportedly dated in 2021, officials said.
PHOENIX — Laura Owens has been indicted on felony charges related to a false claim of pregnancy involving a second victim.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the news Thursday. According to Mitchell, the victim began dating Owens in 2021 but ended the relationship after three dates.
Officials said Owens then claimed to be pregnant by the victim. MCAO investigators later discovered evidence that she had falsified documents that allegedly supported her claim about the pregnancy.
Owens was indicted on several felony charges earlier this week:
- One count of Perjury, a Class Four Felony
- One count of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, A Class Two Felony
- Two counts of Taking the Identity of Another, a Class Four Felony
- Two counts of Forgery, a Class Four Felony
- One count of Theft by Extort-Accuse of Crime, a Class Four Felony
Along with this incident, Owens is facing other charges involving a separate victim, Clayton Echard. Echard was a former star of “The Bachelor,” and Owens accused him of impregnating her with twins.
Authorities said the trial for the Echard case is set for January 2026.
