WASHINGTON (KVOA) – The Trump administration is reportedly preparing another shake-up at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), expressing dissatisfaction with the agency’s current arrest numbers.
Sources indicate that the administration is frustrated with ICE agents for not arresting enough people, falling short of President Trump’s target of 3,000 illegal immigrant arrests per day set earlier this year.
ICE has been averaging 1,178 arrests per day, according to data available as of late September due to the government shutdown.
This is significantly below the goal demanded by Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff and the chief architect of Trump’s deportation policy.
With 25 field offices nationwide, sources suggest that a dozen directors at these offices could be replaced by Border Patrol officials for not meeting performance expectations.
The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to a request for comment.
