WASHINGTON (KVOA) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a generic form of the abortion pill mifepristone, according to an announcement from Evita Solutions.
Evita Solutions confirmed on its website that the FDA approved its generic version of the pill, which is used to terminate pregnancies through 10 weeks.
The approval comes shortly after Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. informed Republican state attorneys general in a letter that the FDA would review the safety of mifepristone.
Despite the significance of the approval, the FDA did not issue a press release, which is typically done for new or significant drug approvals.
The approval has sparked backlash from anti-abortion groups and conservatives.
