University of Arizona closing “micro campuses” in China | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The University of Arizona is closing its micro campuses in China at the end of the current semester.

These campuses, part of a collaboration with local partner universities, allowed students to earn dual U.S.-accredited degrees primarily while studying in China.

Courses were co-taught by faculty from both universities, with the option for students to study abroad at the main campus in Tucson.

The decision to shutter the four micro campuses comes after a report from the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

This closure will affect more than 2,200 students and 40 faculty and staff.

In a statement to the online publication Inside Higher Ed, a University of Arizona spokesperson said, “Acknowledging a congressional directive, the University of Arizona immediately terminated its China-based micro campus agreements. We have communicated directly with those affected and are working with enrolled students to help them continue their education.”
