Flags to half-staff to honor firefighters killed near Show Low

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings lowered to half-staff on Wednesday and Thursday in honor of the two firefighters who lost their lives in a crash Sunday in Navajo County.

Flags should be lowered Sept. 17 and 18, she said.

The Timber Mesa Fire District firefighters, Brenna Kulikowski, 31, and Damon Thompson, 21, were on duty when they were involved in a head-on collision near Show Low, in the evening hours of Sunday. Both firefighters, along with another driver, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson. The name of the other driver has not yet been released, and the collision remains under investigation by DPS.

“I’m devastated by the tragic loss of Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District firefighters Brenna Kulikowski and Damon Thompson in the line of duty this week. We deeply appreciate their brave and selfless service to Arizonans. We mourn along with the community, and we will never forget their legacies and sacrifice,” said Hobbs.

State officials encourage individuals, businesses, and other organizations to join in these tributes.
