Nutrition program SNAP-Ed ending at the U of A | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) will conclude at the University of Arizona by the end of this month.

This development follows U.S. Congress’s decision to cut its funding from the federal budget.

The University of Arizona stated that SNAP-Ed has been a vital source of nutrition education across all 15 Arizona counties.

The university reported that many educational programs conducted at community sites, including schools, senior centers, farmers’ markets, and food pantries, have relied on SNAP-Ed funding.

The funding cut means there will be fewer staff available to deliver these programs and no SNAP-Ed funds to cover associated costs such as travel, materials, or site-based activities.

The elimination of SNAP-Ed funding was part of a broader federal spending bill signed by President Trump.
