SunLink streetcar crash closes 4th Ave; investigation ongoing | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A crash and derailment involving two streetcars occurred on Fourth Avenue at Eighth Street, leading to minor injuries. That’s according to Tucson Police.

Tucson police and Tucson fire responded to the scene, where four people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both streetcars had completely derailed due to the collision.

TPD says initial reports suggest that one driver attempted to turn without confirming the rail switch, resulting in the streetcar being unable to stop in time. SunLink contacted the federal transportation commission to investigate the incident.

Tucson Police say Fourth Avenue will remain closed, likely into Sunday morning, as the investigation continues and specialized vehicles work to remove the streetcars.
