Man arrested for posing as FBI agent in Peoria



Arizona DPS arrests a man for allegedly impersonating an FBI agent in Peoria.

PEORIA, Ariz. — A man is in custody after he was allegedly caught impersonating an FBI agent in the West Valley, DPS said.

On April 10, Arizona DPS received a report of a driver in a black Ford F-150 pickup truck pulling over another driver on SR 303 near Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria. 

According to the authorities, the person reporting the incident gave officials a video of the suspect and victim vehicles. In the video, red and blue flashing lights are seen on the suspect vehicle. 

Troopers were eventually able to identify the victim in the incident and interviewed them. During the investigation, the victim said the suspect identified himself as an FBI agent during their interaction.

A tip from a vigilant citizen led to the investigation and arrest of a suspected police impersonator in the West Valley….

After an investigation, troopers arrested 53-year-old Roderick A. Gaines at his residence in Surprise on Aug. 5. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and faces one charge of impersonating a peace officer and one charge of unlawful imprisonment.

Some of the reported evidence found by investigators included a jacket with the letters “FBI” and a hat with “FBI” embossed on the front. The truck used during the reported incident was located and seized as evidence. A gun was also seized from Gaines’ home.
