Data center proposed south of Eloy | Local News

ELOY, Ariz. (KVOA) – A new data center, dubbed the La Osa Project, is proposed for development in southern Arizona, just outside of Eloy. The massive site would encompass more than 3,3000 acres.

Former Eloy Mayor Micah Powell is “optimistic” about the project becoming a reality.

“There’s been a lot of plans in this Pinal County area, especially the Casa Grande, Eloy area, these dreams to happen and none of them really pan out,” Powell said. “So if it happens, it’d be a nice global data center.”

Powell emphasized the need for adequate infrastructure, such as water and power, for the project to succeed.

“Anything’s possible, you just have to find it,” he said.

Vermaland, the developer behind the project, believes that water usage might not be necessary.

“The water usage – we plan to use minimal or none,” said Kuldip Verma, the founder of Vermaland LLC.

Modern technology allows for cooling systems that do not rely on water, utilizing air or liquid cooling instead, Verma said. Power for the project is planned to start with solar energy, followed by gas and eventually some power from the electrical grid.

Several power lines run through the property as well as a gas line, Verma told News 4 Tucson. Fiber optic infrastructure needed for data centers is not far away either.

“All the things that the data center really needs, they are there,” he said.

Powell acknowledged that while the proposal could benefit the area’s construction sales tax, it would require significant financial investment.

“I’ll be surprised if it goes through, and hopefully I’ll be alive to see something like this go into our area,” Powell said.

In July, Vermaland presented rezoning requests to Pinal County’s Planning and Zoning Commission. Verma expects county approval in 2026 and hopes the first project at the site will begin in as little as two years.
