SWAT standoff in Sierra Vista ends in arrest | Cochise County

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KVOA) – A tense standoff unfolded in Sierra Vista after a man who was previously arrested for domestic violence was found in a house he was ordered to stay away from.

According to the Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD), the incident happened on July 21 around 3:47 p.m. Officials said the homeowners returned to their residence near Fry Boulevard and Garden Avenue and discovered the individual inside.

They promptly left and contacted the police.

Despite several attempts by police to coax the man out, he refused to comply, prompting officers to secure the area and call in SWAT, according to officials.

Crisis negotiators were brought in but were unable to convince the man to surrender. SVPD said SWAT then used less lethal munitions, including pepper balls and flash bangs, to drive the subject out.

Around 5:46 p.m., the man fled the house and was apprehended by police, said SVPD.

Officials said the man was arrested for a domestic violence charge on July 20, 2025, and was ordered to not return to the residence by a judge.
