Man sentenced to 14 years for deadly stabbing in Arizona



Daniel Nassar receives a 14-year sentence for second-degree murder following a deadly stabbing in a Surprise parking lot.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A man will be going to prison for 14 years after pleading guilty to a deadly stabbing in a Valley parking lot.

The Surprise Police Department said the stabbing happened on Jan. 27 in the parking lot of a sports bar near Grand Avenue and Reems Road.

Daniel Nassar, 33, was arrested and charged in the stabbing after Logan Metcalf, 29, died. 

Metcalf was stabbed several times during the “violent” attack, with “courageous” bystanders stepping in to help Metcalf and restrain Nassar.

Police said Nassar had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. 

“We sincerely thank the individuals who intervened during this tragic event. Your courage and quick action helped ensure the immediate safety of others, and our officers recognize and appreciate your bravery. This case is a solemn reminder of the impact of violence in our communities, but also of the strength and resilience of those who stand up to protect others,” the police department said following Nassar’s sentencing.
