A 15-month-old was among several hikers who needed to be rescued Sunday from the Seven Falls area of Tucson’s Sabino Canyon, authorities said.
The rescue started about 2 p.m. Sunday when Pima County Parks Enforcement/Rescue and the Southern Arizona Rescue Association were called to help a hiker suffering “heat-related” injuries.
Rescuers arrived and found that a total of seven people needed help, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Five hikers were airlifted from the area. Three of the rescued hikers, including a 15-month-old child, were taken to a hospital, the release said.
Pima County Search and Rescue said it is important to take extra precautions when recreating outdoors
during periods of extreme heat. It advised carrying sufficient water, wearing protective clothing and
avoiding strenuous activity during peak heat hours.
