Driver hits cop car, tries to keep going



Police said it happened Saturday night near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

PHOENIX — A driver allegedly under the influence hit a Phoenix police cruiser that was parked at a crime scene late Saturday night, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said it happened at around 11:30 p.m. near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

Police said the officer was conducting a traffic control stop after a crime in the area when the vehicle refused to stop at the blocked roadway.

The officer’s vehicle was hit, and the driver “took off” following the collision, police said.

Police said they found the driver and vehicle a short distance away. Police identified him as 19-year-old Omar Andres Acosta Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was processed for DUI and booked into jail on related charges, according to police.

The officer wasn’t seriously hurt in the crash and didn’t need to go to the hospital, according to police.
