The judge said the delay was “due to unforeseen circumstances” and that “it’s not anyone’s fault.”
PHOENIX — The judge in Lori Vallow Daybell’s latest murder conspiracy trial anticipated they’d be able to seat a jury Friday afternoon. That didn’t happen.
The so-called “Doomsday Mom” is facing a murder conspiracy charge out of Gilbert for allegedly conspiring to kill her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux.

Investigators believe Vallow’s brother shot at Boudreaux outside his home in Gilbert back in October 2019. Boudreaux was not hit or injured, but a bullet shattered his car window while he was driving.
On Friday, dozens of potential jurors came into the courtroom. When the hearing started, the judge apologized and said they’d need to continue the selection process until Monday.
The judge said the delay was “due to unforeseen circumstances” and that “it’s not anyone’s fault.”
Sources indicated to 12News that the delay might have been due to Vallow Daybell feeling sick, but they couldn’t officially confirm that information.
After the potential jurors were released for the day Friday, the judge told Vallow Daybell to let her advisory team know if she’d have “issues” getting to court Monday, saying that in the jail people “get quarantined or something.”
The dark backstory
In 2023, Vallow Daybell was convicted in Idaho for killing her children, Tylee and JJ, who used to live in the Valley. She was also convicted for her role in the death of Tammy Daybell, her current husband Chad Daybell’s first wife.
In a separate trial, Chad Daybell was also convicted of murder in that case and was sentenced to death in Idaho.
Last month, Vallow Daybell was convicted in Maricopa County for conspiring to kill her former husband, Charles Vallow, back in July 2019. She represented herself in this trial and plans to do so in her upcoming trial.
Investigators believe Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, is the co-conspirator in these cases. He was never charged because he died before charges were filed in these cases.
When will opening statements start?
Opening statements for the latest trial were originally supposed to start Monday morning.
Jury selection will now resume Monday morning. The judge said that if they can seat a jury by 3 p.m. that afternoon, he’d expect each side to be ready to go into opening statements.
The sides are expected to select sixteen jurors. Twelve will ultimately deliberate and four will be alternates.
The trial is expected to take about two weeks.
