Hughes Federal Credit Union enhances education support | News

Hughes Federal Credit Union is accepting applications for its 20th annual Roberta Reeves Scholarship and celebrating the milestone by doubling its total award amount to $20,000. This year, 10 high school seniors will each receive $2,000 to support their higher education goals.

The scholarship, named in honor of Roberta Reeves, a long-serving Hughes Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors member, has awarded more than $100,000 since its launch in 2005. The program reflects Hughes’ long-standing support for education and youth development.

“We’re incredibly proud to mark 20 years of investing in the futures of Southern Arizona students,” said Elisa Ross, vice president of marketing at Hughes Federal Credit Union. “Increasing the total scholarship amount this year allows us to reach even more students with support that can make a difference during a pivotal time in their lives.”

To qualify, applicants must be high school seniors graduating in 2025, entering a college, university, trade school or certification program, and be a primary member of Hughes Federal Credit Union.

Applicants are invited to write a 500- to 750-word essay or submit a 1- to 2-minute original video on the topic: “What top financial habits should young people develop, and how do you apply them?” Video submissions must be in horizontal format, HD quality (720p or better) and uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.

Students are encouraged to explore Hughes’ MoneyCoach interactive modules to enhance their financial literacy and strengthen their submissions.

All high school seniors meeting the requirements are encouraged to apply at hughesfcu.org/scholarship.
