Looking for some weekend fun? Check out local authors at this Valley market.

The Sunrise Market is hosting an “Author Alley” at the weekly market event on Sunday, Feb. 23.

PHOENIX — Looking for a fun way to spend your Sunday? Head to north Phoenix and meet some local authors.

Sunrise Market, a weekly market hosted at Vista Peak High School, is hosting an “Author Alley” event on Sunday, Feb. 23 to connect the Valley reading community with local writers you know and love, and even some new faces!

“We want you to come on out, find your next favorite author,” founder of Sunrise Market Becca Lopez said. “It’s for the avid reader, it’s the casual reader. Come on out, enjoy the books, enjoy some food, find your next hidden accessory and unique gem from the other market vendors that we have there.”

As a small business owner and author herself, Lopez has a passion for organizing bookish events for Valley readers. She hosted the inaugural Readers of the Valley book convention in January, is planning a fantasy ball in Phoenix this fall, and has already started working on the second Readers of the Valley Convention in 2026 focused on romance.

“I’m all about collaboration and connecting with the community, making an impact and making a difference, because without my local community as a kid, I don’t know what I would have had,” Lopez said. “Being able to give back in any way that I can is my whole goal in life.”

The market will have authors from multiple genres, formats and disciplines. Some of them include:

“Every author has a unique history. Some people just started one day. Other people wanted to be an author their entire life, or it was a moment that just snapped for them,” Lopez said. “It’s beautiful to hear how they started to see them with their published book right now, and I encourage you to come dissect their brains, snag a book, get their autograph before they’re big and famous.”

The market also includes local vendors, including:

“The local author community in Arizona is astounding,” Lopez said. “I thought I was alone growing up. Nobody here likes to read, nobody likes books. I’m all alone. I was wrong.”

The market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Vista Peak High School on Sunday, Feb. 23.
