Phoenix police involved in shooting that left suspect dead

GILBERT, Ariz. — A man has died after he was shot by Phoenix police during an incident at Williams Field and Higley roads in Gilbert overnight, officials reported.

Officers from the Phoenix Police Department were following up on reports that a man forced a woman into a truck Tuesday evening near Interstate 10 and 51st Avenue. Investigators found the victim and the truck in Gilbert.

Details about what led up to the shooting are currently under investigation, but Phoenix police confirmed that officers tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle with a grappler.

The officer-involved shooting happened around midnight.

The woman was hospitalized with a gunshot wound. It’s currently unclear who shot her.

Gilbert police are handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. There are no outstanding suspects.

Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call the department at 911, or through Silent Witness.
