Suspect in custody after allegedly firing at Mesa officers



A suspect who allegedly fired at officers in Mesa was taken into custody on Monday.

The Feb. 3 incident happened at a home near Broadway Road and 32nd Street around 9:20 a.m.

What we know:

According to Mesa Police, the incident stemmed from Sunday night, when someone called 911 reporting a possible suicide.

The incident escalated into Monday morning when the suspect allegedly argued with family members before possibly firing a gunshot. The suspect then reportedly barricaded himself inside a bathroom.

“Officers ensured all other occupants safely exited the home before attempting to communicate with the suspect,” police said.

At one point, the suspect appeared in the doorway and allegedly fired at officers.

No officers were hurt.

“In response, officers used focused fire and less-lethal measures to take the suspect into custody,” police said.

The suspect was not injured.
