Police investigating early morning Phoenix shooting



The Phoenix Police Department said a man was assaulted by several suspects and shot at 3:30 a.m. Sunday near 16th and Van Buren streets.

PHOENIX — A section of Van Buren Street is closed off as police investigate an early morning shooting in central Phoenix, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said at 3:30 a.m. Sunday a man was assaulted by several suspects and shot near 16th and Van Buren streets.

The man was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police tracked the suspects down to a building in the area of 13th and Van Buren streets. Officers surrounded the building and several people came out. Officers detained some of the people, while others were released.

“With the assistance of the Special Assignments Unit, a search warrant was served on the building,” police said.

The area remains closed off as detectives investigate the incident. Additional details about the situation have not been released by police.
