No criminal charges in child’s scooter death

No criminal charges will be filed in connection with a Jan. 3 crash that killed a 10-year-old girl riding a scooter, Pima County authorities said Friday night.

“The findings were thoroughly reviewed by the Pima County Attorney’s Office. After careful consideration of all available facts, it was determined that no criminal charges would be filed against any party involved. The investigation into this incident is now closed,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Emily Ramirez was killed the afternoon of Jan. 3 when she collided with the side of a pickup truck while riding a scooter, the Sheriff’s Department previously reported.

The crash occurred on a neighborhood street near West Irvington Road and South Camino de Oeste, on Tucson’s southwest side.

Ramirez was not wearing a helmet, deputies said.

The unidentified driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
