Gunshots reported inside Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix

Here’s what we know.

PHOENIX — Several police officers and other first responders were dispatched to reports of gunfire inside Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor Airport on Christmas night, according to officials with the Phoenix airport.

Police were called to a shooting at 9:41 p.m. in Terminal 4, which was temporarily closed, airport officials said.

One traveler told 12News he was told there was an active shooter inside the airport as soon as he walked in and was escorted outside. Phoenix police have since confirmed there was a shooting but there is no active threat at this time and the scene has been secured.

“No suspects are being sought after, airport operations have resumed to normal business,” a post on X by the department said.

Gabriella Uloa, who was at the airport dropping off family for a flight, told 12News that she saw a “badly injured” person being taken away by an ambulance.

“It’s frightening because it’s the holidays, of course everyone wants to get home, they want to get home to their families, listening to kids cry, it’s frightening,” Uloa said.

Terminal 4 has since reopened.

Sky Harbor Airport released the following statement:

At about 9:41 p.m., police responded to reports of gunshots fired in Terminal 4. The Terminal 4 A security checkpoint was temporarily closed and PHX Sky Train® operations were paused at Terminal 4 as a precaution. The incident has been resolved and operations are returning to normal.

12News has a crew at the scene. A public information officer with the Phoenix Police Department is expected to give more information soon.

This is a developing story.
