Shelter-in-place lifted at Sky Harbor Airport late on Christmas night

An active police operation brought confusion to Terminal 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor on Christmas night.

A shelter-in-place order forced travelers to wait in the pick-up and drop off area of the Terminal 4, unable to go inside the building.

Inside, caution tape was being put up by Phoenix Police.

Police responded to a report of gunshots at Terminal 4 around 9:41 p.m. According to a release from Sky Harbor Airport, operations at the terminal and on Phoenix Sky Train were paused for precautionary measures.

The order was lifted around 10:30 p.m. and airport officials said operations had returned to normal.

A witness at the scene said he saw a woman taken away from the scene on a stretcher, but that was unconfirmed.

Terminal 4 is the main hub of the airport for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines.
