Arizona weather forecast: Above normal temperatures continue, but a cooldown is expected for Christmas

Flagstaff and the Valley are both looking really nice out there on our Christmas Eve. Over the next 24 hours, we actually have some pretty big changes. The temperature is going to take a drop as a cold front moves through. The winds are going to increase for some areas, looking at a chance of a few light rain to snow showers. So let’s take a look.

It’s dry as can be right now. There are some clouds starting to form, and those clouds are going to bulk up later today. Then tonight, in the high country, is where we’re looking at that chance for a few spotty rain and snow showers.

Now, I would not count on getting a white Christmas; that’s not going to be the case, but a few spotty showers will be possible.

Let’s talk about some of the wet weather around the country, though. If you have family, maybe if you’re traveling early this morning, there could be some issues. Stormy weather is stretching from parts of Texas up through Oklahoma, running along through parts of the Midwest. Then as we look farther up into New England, there’s snow through parts of the Mid-Atlantic states as well, throughout the morning and afternoon hours. As we look farther along to the west, there’s a cold front that will be impacting us by tomorrow morning. Right now, though, it’s bringing wet weather along the Pacific Northwest.

Forecast highs for today are 61 degrees for Show Low, 73 in Safford, and mid-60s in Payson. Prescott is looking at around 63 and in the Valley – again, way above average for this time of year. Just like yesterday, we hit a high of 78. This temperature, though, is taking a dip tomorrow because of that cold front.

Now our lows overnight, meaning these are your Christmas early morning temperatures, won’t really see the full effect because the front will be actively passing through tomorrow morning. So 23 degrees at the Grand Canyon, 28 for Flagstaff, and 38 in Payson, as well as Show Low, 50 degrees tomorrow morning. Not a bad start for your Christmas morning. The futurecast is showing some of that moisture running through.
