TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered on Saturday near Poinciana Drive and South Almond Street, close to Lincoln Park.
The man was so badly burned that officials were unable to immediately identify him. His identity remains unknown.
Tucson Police Department was alerted to the scene by an anonymous caller. The body was found near Pantano and Irvington Road, and police later arrested 43-year-old Christopher Compton for first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

According to an interim complaint, Compton allegedly shot and killed the victim, later setting the body on fire to destroy evidence, specifically to recover a bullet casing. Police discovered a single cartridge case near the body.
The complaint also details a conversation between Compton and the anonymous caller, who reported that Compton had visited their home on December 9th seeking bleach and asking to use their washing machine. Compton also inquired whether a metal detector could locate a brass bullet casing.
Compton allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he shot a friend named “J” following an argument about theft. He initially believed he had used a paintball gun during the incident.
Neighbors expressed shock at the crime, with one stating that they were disturbed by the violent nature of the incident. Authorities continue to investigate as they await further details on the unidentified victim.
