Release conditions lowered for ASU student accused of stabbing classmate

PHOENIX — A Maricopa County judge reduced release conditions for the former Arizona State University student accused of stabbing a classmate several times in September.

Kaci Sloan, 19, allegedly planned to attack her classmate the night before. Court documents reveal Sloan chose to stab the victim over another student because she was “an easier target.”

Hon. Barbara Spencer lowered the bond to a $72,000 secured appearance with house arrest if posted. 

Sloan is also ordered to have no contact with victims or witnesses.

The victim’s father spoke out against the reduced release conditions in court on Tuesday. He told the judge it was a miracle his daughter is alive and if classmates hadn’t stepped in to stop the attack, they’d be talking about an even worse story.

The change in release conditions comes after two of the more serious charges were dropped, including attempted murder.

Bond was initially set at $250,000 cash only.

Trial is scheduled to begin in February 2025.
