1 person dead after hit-and-run in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — A person has died after being hit by a car that left the scene of the crash, according to the Mesa Police Department. 

MPD told 12News that the crash happened just after 6 p.m. near the intersection of University and Stapley drives. 

The department said a person was in the road and was hit by a car. The driver that hit them drove away from the scene of the crash.

Officers are at the scene speaking to people who saw the crash and working to find any surveillance video that may help them identify the car involved in the crash along with who was driving it. 

Right now, Stapley Drive is closed in both directions from University Drive to Brown Road.   

No one involved in the crash has been identified.
