Police involved in shooting in Central Phoenix



The shooting happened near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue, according to an early report.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police were involved in a shooting near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue Tuesday morning.

According to an early report from the Phoenix Police Department, the suspect is “down.” No officers or other community members were hurt during the incident.

Police said during a news conference in the afternoon that the police responded to a call for service on Claredon Street. Police gave commands to the man to stop, but he did not comply. The man allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and then police fired at him. 

“It’s always tragic,” Phoenix Police Public Information Sergeant Mayra Reeson said during the news conference. 

Reeson said this is the second shooting involving an officer in approximately 12 hours and the 16th shooting involving officers this year. 

Police said no one else was injured in the situation.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case. 

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
