Initially, officers responded to the area of 49th Avenue and Thunderbird Road for reports of a shooting.
Officers said a shooting victim was found at this location and the person did not survive.
Police spoke to a witness at that location who pointed out a vehicle allegedly speeding from the scene. Officers tried to stop that vehicle but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, police said.
According to police, the pursuit ended at around 8:15 a.m. near 99th Avenue and Thunderbird Road near a CVS.
Police said the suspect drove behind the store. He got out of the vehicle and allegedly tried to walk away with a gun in his hand.
Officers tried to stop the suspect and he “produced” the gun at which time he was shot by officers, according to police.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died.
No officers were injured in the incident, police said.
Police said the area where the shooting happened will be shut down for an extended period of time.
Police have not released the names of the victim found near 49th Avenue and Thunderbird Road or the suspect killed by officers.
This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
