GLENDALE, Ariz. – A man is dead after being shot by Glendale Police on Wednesday afternoon.
The police department says an unidentified 37-year-old man showed up unannounced to a house near 56th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.
“Several neighbors contacted the police to let them know that they were aware of the order of protection and that the adult female in the home had asked them to alert police. Inside the home at the time was an adult female and a juvenile,” the police department said.
The woman and child were able to escape, leaving the suspect inside the home. When police arrived and told him to leave, he allegedly refused, then barricaded himself inside.
Police say at one point, after hours of negotiations, the man opened fire at the officers and they shot back. He died from his injuries.
The Surprise Police Department is investigating this shooting.
No officers were injured.
