Man killed in early morning shooting in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — A man has died after a shooting near downtown Mesa early Saturday morning, according to the Mesa Police Department. 

The department told 12News someone called 911 about a man having a seizure at about 4:45 a.m. on Saturday at a home on the 100 block of N Lesueur. 

When officers got to the home and began to treat the man, they noticed he had been shot. They immediately began treating the wound and working to save the man’s life, but he lost consciousness and died. 

Police say they are not releasing the name of the victim at this time as they are still working to notify his family. 

Officers soon began looking for the shooter and after speaking with witnesses, they learned that the victim and another man had gotten into an argument that ended with shots being fired. 

Witnesses gave officers a detailed description of the suspect and they were able to find him near the scene of the shooting. 

That man was taken into custody. He has not been identified. 

The shooting is still under investigation.
